Designing a Rental App Focused on Usability and Relevant Information Architecture

Case Study

Rental App (1) 1
Rental App (2) 1

Overview:

This project addresses the challenge of finding short-term rentals efficiently by designing an app that emphasizes usability and clear information architecture. The goal was to create an intuitive interface that allows users to discover rentals quickly while viewing relevant details in a clean, organized layout. Through research, wireframes, and testing, I examined how structure and hierarchy impact decision-making and enhance the overall user experience.

Tools Used:

Figma

Taxonomy & Ontology:

These diagrams formed the foundation for my app’s structure. The taxonomy organizes the app’s main categories: accommodations, amenities, and user needs, while the ontology defines how these elements connect, creating a flexible system that adapts to different user goals.

User Journeys:

This user journey was based on a persona given to us in class. The persona’s journey demonstrates how users would interact with the app based on their personal objectives. By mapping these paths, I ensured that the experience supports exploration, personalization, and efficient navigation.

I completed two other user journey maps using this format.

User Flow:

The user flow connects all major screens, from onboarding to booking. It helped me visualize how filters, proximity maps, and listings interact smoothly to minimize friction.

Wireframes:

I translated my user flow into mid fidelity wireframes to test usability before introducing visuals. The final high fidelity designs integrate clean layout systems, a proximity map, and customizable filters that reflect user needs.

Final Design:

The final design brings together all elements of the information architecture into a clean, functional interface. The proximity map and customizable filters make it easy for users to find spaces that match their lifestyle, while the layout emphasizes clarity and flow.
